In September 2016 we will start an exciting project; to build a brand new, purpose built school in Southfields which will open in September 2017. The new building will be co-located with Ronald Ross Primary School. Each school will have its own building and play areas and will remain independent from one another and continue to provide their current offer of education and care by retaining their own specific identities. The two schools will be sharing one site and there will be some shared spaces; like the school halls and a visitor’s entrance lobby. We are excited about the potential inclusion opportunities the co-location will offer which will be planned in advance on individual pupils’ learning needs. Peers from mainstream school will also benefit from the co-location in terms of adults and children having a deeper understanding of disability and inclusion.
To date both schools have been fully involved with the design of their respective schools with the Local Authority, architects and Neilcott, the construction company. We have been explicit about our requirements to ensure that we continue to offer the very best education and provision for our pupils and their families. We will have specialist facilities, including a new hydrotherapy pool, required by our pupils who have complex learning, physical and health needs. We will use our knowledge and experience of our current building to enhance what we offer in the future. There will be separate drop off and pick up arrangements for each school with a dedicated spaces for buses that transport pupils to school each day.
Over the course of this year we will be sending out updates on the building works via the weekly newsletter and share photos of the building progress here on the website. If you have any queries or questions please contact the headteacher via the school office or your child’s home/school diary.
The Friends of Greenmead (FOG) is the registered charity of Greenmead School. It depends on the support of parents, friends and staff for its success.
