Sensory Pathway – A pre-subject specific curriculum where pupils access a skills-based curriculum with a communication focus on core vocabulary (more/finished/yes/no/me) within a total communication approach. Supporting Social, Emotional and Mental Health as a priority through building meaningful relationships. This pathway uses the engagement model (DfE July 2020).
Intent
At Greenmead Primary School, we focus on our children and what they can do now. This is the foundation upon which the Sensory pathway is designed. All learning opportunities are focused around the following;
Developing an initial skill-base within cognitive learning.
Developing language skills via the inclusion of our core vocabulary (more/finished/yes/no/me) throughout all daily activities.
Exploring and developing the use of a communication system which is individualised to each pupil.
Providing exciting and varied learning opportunities and experiences which inspire our pupils to engage with the world around them, promoting curiosity and a desire to learn.
Supporting Social, Emotional, Mental Health and well-being as a priority through building meaningful relationships.
Developing an understanding of the ‘Fundamentals Of Communication’ (FOC).
The Friends of Greenmead (FOG) is the registered charity of Greenmead School. It depends on the support of parents, friends and staff for its success. Through FOG’s fundraising activities, Greenmead pupils have access to a range of facilities which would not otherwise be available. This includes funding Music Therapy. New parents are encouraged to join. If you would like to make a donation to the school please contact the school office or go to www.justgiving.com
